Strawberry ‘Sequoia’
I purchased a strawberry plant on a whim at Lowe’s… hey, it was on sale! You know me and sales…
Anyway, there’s some argument whether it’s a June bearing culitvar (aka “short day”) or an everbearing cultivar (aka “day neutral”), and the only consensus I could find is that it’s an extended junebearing varietal. Yeah, whatever. As long as it makes tasty berries.
Care and Chores
The plant’s quite small, so I’ve pruned the fruit that was on it so far (one was half ripe!) in the hopes that it’ll spend less time on fruit and more time growing new crowns and leaves for a bigger harvest later in the year.
Since the broccoli and cauliflower got nailed hard by aphids, I’ve been spraying the strawberry plant as well.
History/Notes
- Purchased the plant at Lowes around the 21st of March and planted it immediately
- Pruned on 31March to remove berries in the hopes that the plant will expand a bit.
