Lettuce – Vivian Romaine

Lactuca sativa longifolia

Romaine Lettuce is my favorite — it keeps well, it’s tasty and crunchy (as opposed to iceberg, which I often feel is bland and soggy) and it makes awesome salads of all varieties. It also doesn’t take much space to grow — seedlings can be planted 8 inches apart.

My Notes

  • 2009: First planting: Planted 23Jan09, sprouted almost immediately, but seedlings became leggy along with the Kohlrabi and others.
  • 2009: Second Planting: Planted 12Feb09, sprouted 15Feb09
