Herbs
On the shady side of the house, I raised one hell of a batch of Basil last year. This year, I’m using that entire side of the house as an annual bed and herb garden. The herbs and annuals won’t be as picky about the soil quality (poor at best) and the amount of sun (Part at best) that they get.
I chose the herbs I use the most. Basil’s a given; it’s essential for the sauces I’ll make from the tomatoes and peppers. Cilantro is also a given with my plans to make salsas and other tex/mex dishes. I use Rosemary frequently when I’m grilling; lamb, beef, and chicken all benefit from it. There may be a few others depending on what I find on sale or think I’ll use later in the season.
