Forget-Me-Not, Blue Bird

Myosotis

Forget-Me-Nots are the state flower of Alaska, bloom in spring, and are a fairly common garden ornamental that prefers shade. There are many cultural associations with the flower, but generally all have to do with love and remembrance. I’ve planted them as seed on the shady side of the house. They provide attract and provide food for species of butterflies and moths. The “Blue Bird” variety, as named, produces a large number of blue flowers.

According to Neil Sperry’s Guide to Texas Gardening, 2nd Ed, Forget-Me-Not seeds should be planted in the fall in Zones 8b-9 so that they establish a root system before winter. They’ll then bloom in spring and will have re-seeded by fall.
